What is Title I?

Title I, Part A (Title I) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act provides financial assistance to schools to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. Title I is a federal program designed to improve educational opportunities for low achieving students. It provides all children significant opportunities to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.

Who is Eligible for Title I Services?

Title I intervention services are available for helping students improve their skills and confidence in reading and mathematics. Students are selected to participate in Title I based on a review of data and information. Data reviewed includes:

  • State and district testing

  • Screening data

  • Teacher observations

  • Parent observations

  • Past school records

Title I Staff

Parent Involvement

Under Title I, schools are required to provide assistance to parents and to help provide understanding of the National Educational Goals and the standards and assessments which will be used to determine children’s progress. Parents will be involved in the following:

  • Parent involvement policy (development and implementation)

  • School-Parent-Student Compacts

  • Parent’s Right to Know (Notification will be sent home)

  • Family Nights

  • Information will be provided on the PIRC (Parental Informational Resource Center)
