Each year, the Missouri Music Educators Association holds a four-day conference in Osage Beach at the Tan-Tar-A Conference Center. While offering dozens of workshops for music educators and students, it is also the site of Missouri's all-state performing ensembles, made up of the best music students from throughout the state. These are traditionally high school groups and include the Missouri All-State Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Orchestra. This year, for the first time ever, MMEA has formed an all-state children's choir for students in fourth and fifth grade. Central Elementary is thrilled to announce that our school will be represented in the inaugural Missouri All-State Children's Choir by fifth grade student Lydia Christian.
Hundreds of fourth and fifth grade students from all over Missouri auditioned for the chance to perform in this group. Ultimately, 170 children were selected for the choir, including Lydia. MMEA President Brian Reeves stated, "The quantity and quality of auditions was extraordinary, a testament to the high level of music instruction in our state!"
Lydia will rehearse with the choir this Wednesday, January 22, beginning at 9:30am. The choir will be conducted by Joshua Pedde, artistic director of the famed Indianapolis Children’s Choir. The Missouri All-State Children’s Choir will perform at 4:30pm the same day in Paradise C Ballroom. The performance is free and open to the public as is parking throughout the resort. Audio and/or video recordings will be available for purchase outside of the performance area.
We are incredibly proud of Lydia and excited that she will represent our school in the very first Missouri All-State Children's Choir. Congratulations and best wishes for an amazing performance!
