Apprenticeship

DHS, working with Advantage Automotive, signed our first apprentice, Dillan Brown.

DHS was officially added as a sponsor during the 2020 school year and quickly added Bootheel Tool and Machine as their first employer.  This year DHS added Advantage Automotive, owned and operated, by Charlie and Amanda Long.

Dillan Brown, a senior at DHS, who is also currently attending the Poplar Bluff Technical Career Center each day, is a perfect candidate for the apprenticeship track offered at DHS.  Dillan will earn hours with Advantage Automotive this school year, while getting paid his normal hourly wage, and receive a Certification of Automotive Technician at the end of the School year.  This Certificate is recognized by the State of Missouri as a trained occupation.  It is not a requirement to attend trade school, while pursuing apprenticeship.  This is just the career path individualized for Dillan.  This program is a great addition to our current work program offered at DHS that students may take their senior year.  The program and/or apprenticeship allows a student to leave school for up to 3 hours per day to work with a participating employer.

It is not without the full cooperation of employers in our area that we can continue to offer this program.  If any student is interested in an apprenticeship during their Senior year at DHS, please contact Mrs. Shelly Culp at sculp@dexter.k12.mo.us or 573-614-1030.
